NEW YORK FASHION WEEK WITH NKWO
At the heart of New York Fashion Week, the NKWO art installation at Soho House emerged as a beacon of creativity, sustainability, and social impact. This groundbreaking showcase was more than just an exhibition; it was a powerful statement about the future of fashion.
The installation, a collaborative effort by a dedicated team of eight, showcased a stunning collection of NKWO pieces crafted from the iconic dakala fabric. These pieces were not merely works of art but powerful symbols of the brand's commitment to textile waste reduction, traditional craft preservation, environmental conservation, and innovation.
NKWO Dakala Piece
A Six-Part Installation
Dakala pieces: Showcased incredible pieces by NKWO using the dakala fabric
Feature film: Offered a visual alignment from NKWO's storytelling perspective.
Augmented reality try-on: Provided an inclusive try-on experience for visitors globally.
Wall of hope: Allowed visitors to write inspiring messages.
Social impact: Proceeds from sales of collectible handbags went back to 10 vulnerable women from an Internally Displaced Persons camp in Abuja.
One of the highlights was the augmented reality experience, allowing visitors to virtually try on NKWO pieces and reducing textile waste. A film documentary showcased the lives of the women who create NKWO's products, highlighting the human element behind the brand.
Beyond the art and technology, the NKWO installation had a profound social impact. The collectible handbags on display were made from recycled textiles by women at the transformation center, and the proceeds from their sale were directly channeled to support vulnerable women in Abuja. By providing these women with the opportunity to learn craft skills and earn a sustainable livelihood, NKWO is empowering them to break free from poverty and build a better future.
